The brief
To make an impact on this year’s IWD with a campaign that would align with SheSays mission statement (Holding ground and space for ourselves and others) for the year. SheSays wanted to engage more people, particularly men, in becoming the kind of allies that take tangible steps towards gender equality in the workplace.
The solution
“Nearly half of Britons feel that women’s equality has gone far enough.”
“66% of people in great Britain agree that women won’t achieve equality in their country unless men take actions to support women’s rights too.”
From the Global Institute for Women’s Leadership at King’s College London
It’s 2025 and while the genders should be more united than ever, the divide between us is ever-growing and the understanding that feminism and women's’ rights will serve everyone is seemingly fading.
The 'She Says, We Act' initiative
We launched our biggest recruitment drive in history ahead of International Women’s Day, with the ‘She Says, We Act’ campaign to recruit gender equality allies.
Using LinkedIn Job Ads, TikTok and Instagram, we advertised the voluntary advocacy roles, co-opting recruiter language, and took applications via She Says, We Act.
SheSays is an organisation that is all about championing the rights of women and non-binary people who work in the creative industries. And so while we wanted to recruit as many new allies as possible, particularly men, our challenge was — how do we keep women and non-binary people at the centre while also not excluding men?
Our solution was to ensure gender inclusivity throughout the campaign in language and messaging. We wanted to be clear that this was not an attempt to single out any one gender. Instead, we aimed to unite us all into focussing on one common goal.
Where we had messaging targeted at a specific gender, it was important that we coupled it with data or stats that spurred action without shaming. Especially when it came to engaging with our male allies.
