The challenge

How do we communicate that business banking doesn’t have to be difficult, time-consuming and unhelpful?

The brief

Drive awareness and take-up of Monzo Business accounts amongst new micro-businesses in a way that speaks directly to their needs.

The solution 

By focussing on the real stories of real micro-businesses already using Monzo Business, we let their experience and enthusiasm do the talking. In doing so we were able to position Monzo Business as an intuitive product built to work with not against micro-business owners in a genuine and relatable way. 

Phase 1 of the campaign was built under the concept of celebrating those "rewarding little moments" while running a business as small business owner. 

While Phase 2 of the campaign was built under the concept 'being ready' for a Monzo Business account.

We built a campaign that consisted of ads about 3 inspiring business owners in formats that ran across paid social placements on Meta and YouTube in landscape and portrait. We also produced 90s case studies videos to be used on Monzo Businesses’ website. As well as 30s Spotify audio spots and static and animated performance assets.

My role

As lead creative on both phases of the project, I oversaw the delivery of the project and management of the creative team. I lead on the conceptual development, produced all of the copywriting and directed the VO recordings, as well as the video and audio (including sound design) edits. 

The results 

Over the 3 month course of the campaign account openings increased by 71% over the previous 3 months, dwarfing any seasonality effect. Weekly account activations reached a record high during the campaign period; with brand awareness (among those who saw the campaign on YouTube), increased by 20%, with similar results across other channels. Searches for "Monzo Business" among this audience increased by 287%. 

And since the running of all three campaigns that I lead on, Monzo Business customers have increased from 200,000 to 400,000+.
